Slave made free by vindicta-sets precedent for slaves to be freed, receive a monetary reward and made Roman citizens for service to the state.

A slave uncovered a conspiracy by some youths of certain leading families to bring the Tarquinii back to Rome, among them the sons of Brutus, one of the consuls. Waiting for a letter to be crafted by the conspirators, the slave revealed what he knew to the consuls. The youths were tried, convicted, beaten with rods, and then beheaded. After punishment of the guilty, vindicta, the slave received his freedom, a monetary reward and Roman citizenship.
