CATO THE YOUNGER

Great grandson of Cato the Elder, he was an incorruptible magistrate, a social conservative, who stood in opposition to Julius Caesar and the triumvirate. A member of the senatorial class, he was a staunch republican. Cato, a skilled orator and beloved military commander, was a follower of the Stoic philosophy. He committed suicide after the defeat of republican forces at Utica.
